BeatA raw, soulful sound … mesmerising vocals and emotional, compelling lyrics.
Stunning soul from one of Australia’s most powerful vocalists
With a voice equal parts tender and towering, Naarm-based musician and proud Noongar woman Amy Dowd – better known by her stage moniker, Bumpy – is one of the country’s most thrilling, transportive soul singers. Bumpy lit up the stage as part of Astral People’s birthday celebrations at last year’s Vivid LIVE, and this year she’s back to make her headline solo debut at the Sydney Opera House Utzon Room.
Emerging from the creatively buoyant Melbourne scene, Bumpy performed with First Nations hip-hop collective DRMNGNOW and jazz-infused psych-soul outfit Squid Nebula, before striking out on her own with her hypnotic debut track “Falling” in 2020. After curating the opening night of Melbourne Music Week in 2021, Bumpy returned in 2022 with “Return Home”, won the Music Victoria Award for Emerging Talent and the Triple J Unearthed National Indigenous Music Award. In 2023, her debut album Morning Sun garnered raves for its moving, soulful sound, winning New Talent of the Year at the NIMAs and Best Soul, Funk, R&B & Gospel work at the Music Victoria Awards. That year, she was also selected for the prestigious First Nations Artist Residency Program at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
A vibrant singer and creative powerhouse, Bumpy draws on her truth, identity and incredible vocal ability to deliver music that stirs the soul.
