British legend goes down underground for the long hot summer
An undisputed icon of British punk, mod, new wave and blue-eyed soul, Paul Weller has thrived across multiple decades and musical incarnations, from his breakthrough with The Jam to R&B-influenced duo The Style Council and his beloved solo career. Now, six years after his blistering, sold-out shows at the Sydney Opera House, the icon returns down underground for the long hot summer, playing three Australian exclusive dates in the renewed Concert Hall.
In a career that spans the formation of The Jam in 1976 through to his 16th and most recent solo album, 2021’s Fat Pop, Weller has notched up 57 top 40 UK singles, four of them number ones, 26 top 40 albums, four prestigious BRIT awards, plus the Ivor Novello Lifetime Achievement award, plus many more. With albums like In the City (1977), All Mod Cons (1978) and Sound Affects (1980), The Jam helped define both the UK mod revival and punk scenes, and delivered anthems – “A Town Called Malice”, “The Eton Rifles”, “That’s Entertainment” – that endure to this day. The ’80s saw Weller lean into the blue-eyed soul of The Style Council, and its irresistible jams “Shout to the Top” and “You’re the Best Thing”, before launching a solo career in the 90s that yielded a string of favourites like “You Do Something to Me” and “Wild Wood”.
With a nearly 50-year catalogue and a continued hunger for exploring musical styles, Weller is a force whose power remains undiminished. Don’t miss these Australian exclusive performances from one of British music’s true legends.
