In the Concert Hall

Contemporary Music

Emerging from a dark personal period with some of her most powerful music yet, acclaimed singer-songwriter Angel Olsen returns to the Sydney Opera House for her headline debut in the Concert Hall.

Heavenly, lilting vocals… soaring crescendos and sure-fire pop moments.

The Brag

A once-in-a-generation talent returns with stunning new music

Hailed as one of the greatest singer-songwriters of her generation, American indie rocker Angel Olsen has gone from strength to strength over successive records, with her latest, Big Time, acclaimed by critics as “her clearest and most radiant music” (Pitchfork). Now, after a six year hiatus, the powerhouse musician is returning to the Sydney Opera House for one night only, playing a set of classics and new music as she makes her Concert Hall debut.

Since her early days of lo-fi, alt-country rock, Olsen has blossomed into an electrifying performer of raw intensity. Her 2014 album, Burn Your Fire For No Witness, exploded onto the scene, while 2016’s wildly adored My Woman yielded her signature smash, “Shut Up and Kiss Me”, and 2019’s sublime epic All Mirrors blended her fiery indie rock with sweeping orchestral strings and pulsing electronic soundscapes. Released earlier this year, the stunning Big Time followed Olsen’s coming out as queer, delivering a yearning meditation on new love infused with her signature musings on heartache and loss.

This is Olsen’s third time at the Sydney Opera House, having played alongside Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy in 2012 and solo in 2016, and marks her triumphant headline debut in the Concert Hall. A welcome return for one of our favourites, and a show not to be missed.
