Ages 12+ | Inspired by the unique design genius of architect Jørn Utzon and the Sydney Opera House, get creative through a series of fun and playful design exercises for beginners or design lovers, whilst learning about the architectural history of the Sydney Opera House.

Building the Bush
Saturday 1 March 2025
Building in the Australian bush is special and needs extra consideration in regards to site, sustainability, fire, water, culture and place. During the workshop we will examine the work of many great Australian architects to inspire us how to design our own Country getaway.
The workshop will focus on creating a 1:100 model with site using balsa and cardboard.
Suitable for all students and lovers of architecture and anyone else looking to design their own country home.
Home Renovation

Looking to renovate your home? Is your house needing a refresh or are you thinking of creating a multigenerational home or even looking to build a rear extension or studio? Come along to the Architecture Club, where we will guide you through how to create sustainable living through passive design principles to help your home become more functional and pleasurable.
Suitable for all students and lovers of architecture and anyone else looking to be inspired by passive design.
Utzon Dreaming
Saturday 10 May 2025
Architect Jorn Utzon’s looked to nature and his travels for inspiration for his Sydney Opera House. Just like Utzon, in this workshop you will learn and be inspired by Sydney’ coastal topography and work with clay to create organic forms and designs.
Come prepared to get your hands dirty! This is a one-of-a-kind model making activity and includes different types of model-making.
About the artist
Louise O’Brien
Louise O’Brien is a registered Architect in NSW with qualifications in Installation Art & Interior Design. She is the founder of Apsara Collective – a residential, hospitality and interior architecture studio. She has more than twenty years’ experience locally and internationally. Louise’s passion for design and the opportunities it provides to inspire and empower young people has led her to education and she now lectures at a tertiary level and runs the Architecture for Kids School based in Sydney and Sydney Opera House's regular Architecture Club.

Venue information
Our foyers will be open 90 minutes pre-show for Concert Hall and Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and two hours pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. Refreshments will be available for purchase from our theatre bars.
All Sydney Opera House foyers are pram accessible, with lifts to the main and western foyers. The public lift to all foyers is accessible from the corridor near the escalators on the Lower Concourse and also in the Western Foyer via the corridor on the Ground Level (at the top of the escalators). Pram parking will be available outside the theatres in the Western Foyer.
Getting here
The Sydney Opera House Car Park, operated by Wilson Parking, is open and available to use. Wilson Parking offer discounted parking if you book ahead. Please see the Wilson Parking website for details.
Please check the Transport NSW website for the latest advice and information on travel. You can catch public transport (bus, train, ferry) to Circular Quay and enjoy a six minute walk to the Opera House.
Frequently asked questions
We advise that you arrive 15 minutes prior to the event. Ticket purchases and collection at our Box Office is discouraged and eTicket or postal delivery methods should be used, wherever possible. However, if you are collecting your tickets from the Box Office, we recommend doing this at least 60 minutes before the event starts.
Prior to the workshop, please notify us if you will need a chair for the session, so we can have those available. Please email accessibility@sydneyoperahouse.com to request a chair or notify our team of any additional needs you may have.
The authorised agency for this event is the Sydney Opera House.
Only tickets purchased by authorised agencies should be considered reliable. Food and beverages will not be allowed unless specified in the event. Opera Bar, Opera Kitchen and Portside are also available to purchase food before your event. Please bring a credit or debit card for any on-site purchases to enable contactless payment.
