Recommended for adults 55+
No previous dance or theatre experience is necessary. Facilitators will guide participants in movement exercises and activities that meet their physical movement levels.
What to bring on the day
Water bottle and whatever you're most comfortable moving in - ideally your favourite dancing pants!
Please bring shoes you can take off, as this workshop is best done barefoot!

Inspiring and social creative workshop
Join our monthly dance theatre session for the ageless, welcoming seniors aged 55+ for an inspiring and social creative workshop inspired by the great tradition of dance theatre.
You will move and explore creative expression and storytelling through a gentle dance class connected with a physical exploration of theatre, memories and the imagination. The movement class is followed by a conversation, over coffee, about dance theatre's great moments with dance artist and educator Diane Busuttil.
This dance theatre class is designed for those new to dance and movement, wanting to explore creative expression, build strength and mobility, improve balance, and increase short-term memory and musicality, as well as meet new friends in the beautiful surroundings of Sydney Opera House.
Come solo or bring a group of friends to fulfil your creative potential!

About the artist
Diane Busuttil
Diane's background is in dance, choreography, and live performance. She has worked as an independent dancer, choreographer and performer for many years throughout Australia, Europe and Asia. Diane has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Dance, and a Master of Research Degree. In 2000, Diane was awarded a DAAD scholarship to study BODY at The International Women's University in Germany which initiated her fifteen-year stay in Berlin, Germany where she worked primarily in dance theatre as well as opera, circus and traditional theatre.
Through Creative Caring, Diane facilitates creativity through dance, which has the power to open hearts, change minds and bring people from diverse cultural backgrounds and abilities together. Creative Caring projects are often participatory and collaborative, reaching out to different communities and across sectors, focusing on the union of arts and health to act as a remedy for our personal and social ills. Diane brings dance programs to seniors in many formats; through socially engaged practice in a community setting, in aged care homes, and in residential living. Additionally, she teachs dance composition and performance to tertiary students. Each program is specifically tailored to the age and movement capacity of the participants. She has over 20 years of experience working with older people as a trainer, facilitator, and movement consultant.
Diane's philosophy is that movement is a primary expressive language and a strong artistic tool that binds people, through creativity, to their community. Through dance theatre programs, Diane builds a sense of belonging through socially engaged art practices. Recently Diane undertook a CASE Incubator residency with The CAD Factory.

Venue information
Our foyers will be open 90 minutes pre-show for Concert Hall and Joan Sutherland Theatre performances, and two hours pre-show for Western Foyer venue performances. Refreshments will be available for purchase from our theatre bars.
All Sydney Opera House foyers are pram accessible, with lifts to the main and western foyers. The public lift to all foyers is accessible from the corridor near the escalators on the Lower Concourse and also in the Western Foyer via the corridor on the Ground Level (at the top of the escalators). Pram parking will be available outside the theatres in the Western Foyer.
Getting here
The Sydney Opera House Car Park, operated by Wilson Parking, is open and available to use. Wilson Parking offer discounted parking if you book ahead. Please see the Wilson Parking website for details.
Please check the Transport NSW website for the latest advice and information on travel. You can catch public transport (bus, train, ferry) to Circular Quay and enjoy a six minute walk to the Opera House.
Frequently asked questions
We advise that you arrive 15 minutes prior to the event. Ticket purchases and collection at our Box Office is discouraged and eTicket or postal delivery methods should be used, wherever possible. However, if you are collecting your tickets from the Box Office, we recommend doing this at least 60 minutes before the event starts.
