Lose yourself in the emotional catharsis of the dancefloor

A live act with an emotional power like no other, Icelandic-Faroese duo Kiasmos have been at the forefront of melodically striking electronic music for more than 15 years, beloved for their ability to fuse ambient soundscapes and pulsing beats to create a euphoric dancefloor experience.

Formed by Icelandic pianist and composer Ólafur Arnalds and Faroese Islands electropop artist Janus Rasmussen, Kiasmos first made a splash with their 2009 EP Thrown, before drawing breathless acclaim for their 2014 self-titled debut, an album that re-imagined minimal techno with orchestral flourishes and weightless production.

After a 10-year break, during which Arnalds earned a Grammy nomination for his soundtrack work and Rasmussen toured the world DJing, the pair reconvened for 2024’s stunning II, a record that showcases their evolution as composers and producers. Crafted over years and around the world, including a trip to Bali to capture local sounds, the record echoes Kiasmos’ embrace of UK dance, embracing tension and unconventionality in its blend of organic and electronic elements, fully orchestrated sounds and jittery breakbeats. It’s what the duo have come to call “emotional rave” – music made for the euphoric release of crying tears of joy on the dancefloor.

This is Kiasmos’ first Australian appearance since 2017, and their Sydney Opera House debut. Feel the emotion of one of electronic music’s most cathartic live acts.
