The neo-classical master of ambient electronica returns

Since making his Sydney Opera House debut at Vivid LIVE in 2014, Berlin-based pianist and composer Nils Frahm has become something of a local favourite, playing the Concert Hall in 2017 and 2019 and returning to Vivid LIVE for a trio of hypnotic, sold-out performances in 2022. With his latest piano album Day demonstrating his mastery of tender minimalism – Frahm is headed back to his beloved Sydney Opera House for two shows in the Concert Hall.

A man who all but defines the space between classical and electronic music, Frahm released a series of acclaimed solo piano albums before breaking through with 2011’s Felt, an atmospheric, synth-heavy record that had audiences hooked on his sonic alchemy of ambient texture and atmospheric electronica. In 2015, Frahm launched Piano Day, a celebration of innovative music featuring live concerts across the globe, and moved into film scoring with the award-winning soundtrack to Victoria. The ambitious All Melody (2018) was followed by the live album and concert movie Tripping with Nils Frahm (2019), the dub-influenced 2X1=4 (2021) and the intimate piano set Old Friends New Friends (2021). In 2022 he debuted the sprawling electronic album Music for Animals, which he performed to rapturous crowds at Vivid LIVE.

The German maestro’s new shows will draw from his extensive catalogue, and as his fans are well aware, no two Frahm performances are ever the same. Moving seamlessly between the worlds of experimental music, ambient and electronica, Frahm is set to once again prove why he is one of the most accomplished – and popular – neo-classical stars of the moment.
