Sydney Opera House Creative Learning Artist and Facilitator Expression of Interest

The Sydney Opera House is expanding its pool of Creative Learning Artists and Facilitators for freelance and contract opportunities across our Creative Learning programs for young people, onsite and in schools.

Every year, Sydney Opera House’s Creative Learning team delivers a number of dynamic, playful and creative programs that engage Creative Learning Artists and Facilitators. These programs include Creative Play in the Western Foyers, School Holiday Workshops in the Centre for Creativity and during term time our Creative Leadership in Learning program in schools across NSW.

What we are looking for:

Our Creative Learning Artists and Facilitators are skilled at using their creative practices to deliver workshops, play experiences, and immersive installations in schools and in cultural organisations that engage young people’s creativity and creative development. 

You will have experience in some or all of the following: 

  • Performing, live, or visual arts, craft, film, digital or screen culture, or any discipline where you have worked with creative practises in a learning context. 
  • Working in a collaborative creative process with young people enabling them to lead with creative agency. 
  • Participatory engagement as a key characteristic of your artistic practise and have a demonstrated ability and experience engaging groups in your artform/s. 
  • Using ‘play’ or other Creative Learning approaches such as inquiry-based learning as a learning approach 
  • Working with adults in creative workshops.
  • Practitioners who have experience working with children with disability, specifically experience working with children with autism and children with learning and development needs.  

We are looking for professional practitioners who are:

  • In their mid-late career looking for opportunities to bring wisdom and facilitation and/or program design experience to leading the delivery of Creative Learning projects.
  • Graduate, emerging or early in their career looking to work with more established artists in a facilitation support role. 
  • Experienced in working in Creative Learning practises with young people, or an artist ready to apply your discipline for the first time in a Creative Learning context. 
  • Committed to the power and potential of young people’s perspectives, and agency. 
  • Based in Sydney or NSW (for outer metro and regional projects). 
  • Able to work on weekends, during school holidays or in term time project contracts on a freelance basis.  

For emerging support artists and facilitators we also are keen to hear from: 

  • Final year performing or installation arts students. 
  • Based in Sydney or NSW (for outer metro and regional projects). 
  • Able to work on weekends, during school holidays or on term time project contracts on a freelance basis.
