Kiasmos
Pioneering electronic duo to bring ‘emotional rave’ to the Concert Hall
Sydney —
Acclaimed Icelandic-Faroese sonic innovators Kiasmos will bring their majestic beats and orchestral sounds to the Concert Hall in a Sydney Opera House debut on 12 July.
Kiasmos says: "We’re incredibly honoured to be playing the Sydney Opera House for the first time. This is our first proper Australian tour in eight years and we can’t wait to be back. This is a seated show, but we doubt that will last long. See you soon!"
The Reykjavik-based pair, BAFTA-winning and Grammy-nominated Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds and Faroese musician Janus Rasmussen, will showcase their euphoric new record, II – a triumphant evolution of Kiasmos' signature sound and their first album in ten years. Crafted across multiple continents and featuring striking field recordings of Bali's natural environment, the album embraces UK dance influences and unconventional arrangements to create what the duo calls 'emotional rave’.
As one of the most compelling electronic acts of the 21st century, Kiasmos has been at the forefront of soul-stirring techno for over 15 years, known for their ability to blend ambient soundscapes with pulsing beats. The duo first made a splash with the 2009 EP Thrown before drawing widespread praise for their 2014 self-titled debut, which reimagined minimal techno with classical flourishes.
Sydney Opera House Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall, says: “We're thrilled to welcome Ólafur Arnalds’ and Janus Rasmussen’s stunning Kiasmos project for their long-overdue Opera House debut. The emotional power of their intoxicating sound pulsing through the vaulted recesses of the monumental Concert Hall promises to be a cathartic, joyous moment for fans of forward-thinking electronica."
