Ecstatic, infectious grooves from London’s genre-bending jazz-funk heroes

Whipping up an irresistibly eclectic mix of Afro-Cuban jazz, salsa and Afrobeat – with a dash of reggae, soul and hip-hop – the Mercury Prize- and BRIT Award-winning British jazz-funk outfit Ezra Collective have become one of the must-see live acts of the past few years, beloved for their dazzling musicianship and joyfully exuberant performances. Following their electrifying performance with special guest Jorja Smith and landmark win for Group of the Year at the 2025 BRIT Awards, Ezra Collective make their Sydney Opera House debut for Vivid LIVE.

Since their formation in 2012, the five-piece group – brothers Femi and TJ Koleoso, Ife Ogunjobi, James Mollison and Joe Armon-Jones – have become one of the hottest tickets in town, blending the rich array of sounds and cultural influences that would shape the buzzy London jazz scene. Their 2019 debut You Can’t Steal My Joy, featuring collaborations with Loyle Carner (What Am I To Do?) and Jorja Smith (Reason In Disguise), met with instant love among the nu-jazz, funk and R&B community, while their 2022 follow-up Where I’m Meant To Be earned the band the prestigious Mercury Prize for album of the year.

With the sustained success of their third record, the rhythmically transcendent Dance, No One’s Watching (2024), and the Latin-infused new single Body Language, Ezra Collective will make a triumphant return to Sydney for what is sure to be one of the festival’s most liberating, inspirational nights.
