Dreamy rock and electronica from an indie pop auteur

A singer, songwriter, guitarist and bestselling author, Michelle Zauner – aka Japanese Breakfast – has left fans and critics breathless with their singular brand of confessional indie pop. With a brand new album due in March, the Grammy-nominated musician is set to return to Australia, bringing their beloved dream pop and electronica to the Concert Hall for their Vivid LIVE debut.

Born in Seoul and raised in Eugene, Oregon, Zauner debuted their Japanese Breakfast project in 2013 with the lo-fi cassette June, which was followed by 2016’s debut Psychopomp and 2017’s Soft Sounds From Another Planet, records that expanded their intimate indie pop sound with shimmering synths, guitars and electronics. In 2021, they released the critically acclaimed, Grammy Award-nominated Jubilee – led by the buoyant smash, “Be Sweet” – and the video game soundtrack Sable; that same year, they reckoned with their identity in the wake of her mother’s death with the New York Times bestselling novel Crying in H Mart, soon to be adapted into a feature film.

Having spent much of 2024 living in Seoul and studying Korean, Zauner announced a world tour and their long-awaited fifth album For Melancholy Brunettes (& Sad Women) with the new single ‘Orlando in Love’.

This is their first Australian show in almost a decade and sure to be one of the festival’s hottest tickets.
